Labor union | an organized association of workers, often in a trade or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests. |
right-to-work law | Legislation that allows a person to work at any place of employment without being forced to join a union as a condition of employment. |
collective bargaining mediator | negotiation of wages and other conditions of employment by an organized body of employees. |
binding arbitration | involves the submission of a dispute to a neutral party who hears the case and makes a decision. |
strike | Stoppage of work due to conflict over mandatory issues (issues that must be resolved through collective bargaining) such as wages or working conditions. |
featherbedding | describe the practice of a labor union requiring an employer to hire more workers than necessary for a particular task. |
preferred stock | A class of ownership in a corporation that has a higher claim on its assets and earnings than common stock. |
common stock | Type of security that serves as an evidence of proportionate ownership, imparts proportionate voting rights, and gives its holder unlimited proportionate claim on the assets and income of the firm (after the claims of lenders, and other obligations, are s |
stock | A type of security that signifies ownership in a corporation and represents a claim on part of the corporation's assets and earnings |
stockholder | One who owns shares of stock in a corporation or mutual fund. For corporations, along with the ownership comes a right to declared dividends and the right to vote on certain company matters, including the board of directors. |
stock broker | . An agent that charges a fee or commission for executing buy and sell orders submitted by an investor. |
share | The capital of a company is divided into shares. Each share forms a unit of ownership of a company and is offered for sale so as to raise capital for the company. |
bull market | is most often used to refer to the stock market, but can be applied to anything that is traded, such as bonds, currencies and commodities. |
bear market | A market condition in which the prices of securities are falling, and widespread pessimism causes the negative sentiment to be self-sustaining. |
trade surplus | An economic measure of a positive balance of trade, where a country's exports exceeds its imports |
trade deficit | is an economic condition that occurs when a country is importing more goods than it is exporting. |
