alliteration | repeated use of a consonant sound at the beginning of closely related words (ex. Six Silly Sisters Selling Shiny Shoes) |
Hyperbole | exaggerated statements that are not to be taken literally. (ex. My feet are killing me) |
idiom | a group of words who's meanings are not predictable from the usual meaning (ex. When pigs fly) pigs won't fly |
allusion | an indirect or passing reference to something that the should reconize |
simile | A comparison of two unlike things using like or as (ex. Happy as a clam) |
onomatopoeia | a word formed by the sound associated with its meaning (ex. BOOOM) |
personification | a figure of speech in which a thing or idea or animal is given human charecteristics |
