Mass Movement

These flashcards will give you information on mass movement/causes.

TermDefinition
Mass Movement One of the several processes that move sediment downhill.
Mass Movement examples Landslides, mudslides, slump and creep.
Sediment The material moved by erosion or Earths materials deposited by erosion.
Deposition The process in which the forces of Erosion move the sediment in new places.
Erosion The process by which water, ice, wind or gravity moves weathered rock and soil.
Landslide (Example of Mass Movement) 1. Most destructive kind of mass movement. 2.Occurs when rock/soil slide quickly down a slope.
Slump (Example of Mass Movement) 1.Has a mass of rock/soil that slips down a slope in one large mass. 2.It often occurs when water soaks the base of a mass of soil in a normally dry area. 3. Can look like a giant spoon scooped soil from a hillside.
Mudflow/Mudslide (Example of Mass Movement) 1. Rapid downhill movement of a mixture of water, rock and soil. 2. Water can be 60% of the mudslidw 3.Often occurs after heavy rains in a normally dry area. 4.Under conditions, clay can turn to liquid and flow 5.Earthquakes can trigger mudslides and

Creep (Example of Mass Movement) 1. It's a very slow downhill movement of rock and soil. 2. Can occur on gentle slopes. 3. Tilts objects-(ex.telephone poles, gravestones, fence posts) at a spooky angle 4. Often results from freezing/thawing of water in cracked layers of rock beneath th

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
