Term | Definition |
---|---|
Evaporation | When water receives energy and changes form from liquid to gas as it begins to rise. |
Transporation | Plants such as trees and leaves give off water vapor from tiny little pores that they hold from their roots. |
Condensation | As evaporation occurs the vapor collects dust and pollen particles and looses energy which causes it to form little water drop lets as well as it changing form from gas to a liquid. |
Precipitation | Condensation continues to occur as it forms a cloud the cloud gets heavier and heavier and releases rain, snow, sleet, and/or ice. |
Run-off | The precipitation that does not fall in water masses on land or into soil run off of the land into the ocean. |
Ground water | Water that does not run-off sinks and slides through the tiny cracks off solid rock on earth's surface. |
Water vapor | Is the gas form of water. |
97% Salt water | 97% of the water on earth's surface is salty or not usable for humans accessibility. |
3% Fresh water | 3% of the water on earth's surface is clean or accessible for humans. |
76% Ice | 76% of the fresh water is frozen so can not be accessed. |
23% Ground water | 23% of the fresh water is under ground. |
0.3% Lakes/Rivers | 0.3% of fresh water is in lakes and rivers or water ways. |
0.4% Water vapor | 0.4% of the earth's fresh water is in a gas form. |
