TermDefinition
Temperature The degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object.
Relative Humidity The amount of water vapor that is in air expressed as a percentage of the amount needed for saturation at the same temperature.
Precipitation When a water, or any form of water comes down as sleet, snow, rain, etc.
Degrees Fahrenheit The primary temperature standard for climatic, industrial and medical purposes.
Air Pressure The force exerted onto a surface by the weight of the air.
Barometer An instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure.
Wind The movement of the air.
Climate The weather associated in a specific area.
Rain Gauge An instrument used to measure the amount of precipitation
Liquid A fluid that conforms to the shape of its container.
Anemometer An instrument used to determine wind speed.
Wind Vane An instrument used to determine wind direction.
Climate Region It is measured by assessing the patterns of variation in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, and precipitation.
Front A weather front is a boundary separating two masses of air of different densities.
Air Mass A body of air with horizontally uniform temperature, humidity, and pressure.
Warm Front Is defined as the transition zone where a warm air mass is replacing a cold air mass.
Cold Front Is defined as the leading edge of a cooler mass of air, replacing at ground level a warmer mass of air.
Occluded Front Is formed during the process of cyclogenesis when a cold front overtakes a warm front.
Stationary Front Is a pair of air masses, neither of which is strong enough to replace the other.
