Plane | a flat surface with no thickness and extends without end in all directions |
Line segment | a part of a line that has two endpoints |
ray | a part of a line that has exactly one endpoint and extends without end in one direction |
parallel lines | two lines that lie in the same plane and do not intersect |
skew lines | lines that do not lie in the same plane, are not parallel and do not intersect |
Adjacent angles | angles that share a vertex and a side but no points in their interiors |
vertical angles | angles that are formed by two intersecting lines and are opposite each other. |
Congruent angles | angles that have the same measure |
Supplementary angles | angles whose sum is 180 degrees |
Complementary angles | angles whose sum is 90 degrees |
Transversal | a lines that intersects two other lines in different points |
Corresponding angles | lie on the same side of the transversal in corresponding positions |
alternate interior angles | angles in the interior of a pair of lines and on opposite sides of the transversal |
polygon | a closed plane figure with at least three sides |
acute triangle | triangle with three acute angles |
right triangle | triangle with one right angle |
obtuse triangle | triangle with one obtuse angle |
equilateral triangle | triangle with three congruent sides |
isosceles triangle | triangle with at least two congruent sides |
scalene triangle | triangle with no congruent sides |
quadrilateral | polygon with 4 sides |
trapezoid | a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides |
parallelogram | quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel |
rectangle | a parallelogram with four 90 degree angles |
square | a rectangle with four congruent sides |
rhombus | a parallelogram with four congruent sides |
regular polygon | a polygon where all sides and angles are congruent |
circle | the set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point |
central angle | an angle whose vertex is the center of a circle |
radius | a segment that has one endpoint at the center and the other endpoint on the circle |
diameter | a chord that passes through the center of a circle |
circumference | distance around a circle |
chord | a segment whose endpoints are on the circle |
congruent figures | figures that have the same shape and size, and their corresponding parts have equal measures |
congruent angles | Angles that have the same measure |
Acute angle | An angle with a measure less than 90 degrees |
angle of rotation | the angle measure of the rotation |
center of rotation | the fixed point which a figure rotates around |
decagon | a figure with 10 sides |
diagonal | a segment that connects two nonconsecutive vertices |
heptagon | a seven sided figure |
hexagon | a six sided figure |
image | the result of the transformation of a point, line, or figure to a new set of coordinates |
line of reflection | a line across which a figure is reflected |
line of symmetry | a line that divides a figure with rotational symmetry into 2 congruent halves |
nonagon | a nine sided figure |
obtuse angle | an angle with a measure of more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees |
octagon | an eight sided figure |
pentagon | a five sided figure |
perpendicular lines | lines that intersect and from a 90 degree angle |
reflection | a transformation that flips a figure over a line of reflection |
reflectional symmetry | when one half of a figure is a mirror image of the other half |
right angle | an angle that measures 90 degrees |
rotation | a transformation that turns a figure about a fixed point |
rotational symmetry | when the figure can be rotated 180 degrees or less and match the original figure |
straight angle | an angle with a measure of 180 degrees |
transformation | a change of position or size of a figure |
translation | a transformation that moves points the same distance and in the same direction |
triangle | a three sided figure |
