TermDefinition
Biosphere Earth system that contains all living things
Atmosphere A mixture of gases that forms a layer around Earth
Hydrosphere System containing all Earth's water
Cryosphere The frozen portion of water on Earth's surface
Groundwater Water that is stored in cracks and pores beneath Earth's surface
Geosphere The solid part of Earth
Water Cycle The continuous movement of water on, above, or below Earth's surface
Evaporation The process by which a liquid changes changes to a gas
Transpiration The process by which plants release water vapor through their leaves
Condensation The process by which a gas changes to a liquid
Precipitation Moisture that falls from clouds to Earth's surface
Weather The state of the atmosphere at a certain time and place
Climate The average weather pattern for a region over a long period of time
Troposphere The part of the atmosphere where gases flow and swirl which causes weather
Stratosphere The part of the atmosphere where the ozone layer exists.
Ozone Layer The part of the stratosphere that protects the Earth's surface from harmful radiation from the sun. It acts like a layer of sunscreen protecting the biosphere.
