TermDefinition
What are the 5 steps of the patient education process in order? Assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation
Assessment Gathering information about the patient's present health care needs and abilities
Planning Using the information you gathered during the assessment to determine how you will approach the patient's learning needs
Implementation The process used to perform the actual teaching
Evaluation The process that indicates how well the patient is adapting or applying new information to their life
Documentation Recording all of the teachings that have occurred
What are the 5 tiers of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? Physiological, safety and security, affection and belonging, esteem and self respect, self actualization
Physiological needs Air, water, food, rest and comfort
Safety and security needs Safe environment and freedom from fear and anxiety
Affection and belonging needs Need for love and belonging in order to feel connected to others
Esteem and self respect needs Need to feel self worth and feeling valued by yourself and others
Self actualization needs When a person has satisfied all other basic needs and feels personal responsibility and control over their own life
