Who was Abraham? God told him to journey to Canaan, the Promise Land, which would belong to him and his descendants. He accepted God's promise
Who was Isaac? Abraham's son who headed the household after his father's death
Who was Jacob? Angel gave him the new name Israel which means one who struggles with God, his descendants were called Israelites; his 12 sons were called the 12 tribes of Israel; he moved his family to Egypt.
Who was Moses? He was a prophet. God spoke to him with a bush in flames that did not burn. he led the Israelites through the Exodus. the Holy day called Passover remembers this.
Who were the Phoenicians? Skilled sailors and traders. They invented the idea of an alphabet. They control Mediterranean trade. They spread ideas and culture.
Who were the Philistines? They were skilled in making iron. They kept their own language and religion. They were known as the sea of people Who invaded the Mediterranean in about 1200 BC. They had the strongest army and purple dye cloth.
what were some important facts about the Israelites? practiced monotheism they believe God sent prophets to share God's word about the religious beliefs and his stories =Hebrew Bible. Beleifsbecame Judaism = the Jews
What was the story of Moses and the Israelites? Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let my people go. Pharaoh refused. God sent 10 plagues.
What were the 10 plagues? Water to blood. Frogs. Nets or lice. Flies. Boils. Thunder and hail. Locusts. Livestock disease. Darkness. Angel of death.
How did the Israelites conquer Jericho? For six days they marched around the walls of Jericho. On the seventh day the Israelites shouted the Lord has given us our city. The walls collapsed. Joshua ledthem in battle.
How did Canaan's land and climate affects of the Israelites settlement of the region? The land was rocky and dry so farmers collected rainwater they stored it in caves and used the water to irrigate crops such as Olives grapes barley and flax.
What was the Exodus? Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and slavery after sending 10 plagues on Egypt. Then, Moses parted the Red Sea and traveled on to the promised land.
