Algebra terms, properties, combining and simplifying

Rules for combining like terms 1) Same variables 2) Same powers 3) Constants combine
34 + 0 = 34 The Identity Property of Addition. Any number plus zero is that number. 34 + 0 = 34 (The number "keeps its identity.")
17 x 1 = 17 Identity Property of Multiplication. The product of any number and one is that number (The number "keeps its identity")
4+(8+2) = (4+8)+2 The Associative Property of Addition (a+b)+c = a+(b+c)
7(2y + 5) = 14y + 35 The Distributive Property a(b+c) = a(b) + a(c)
6 less than r r - 6
Frank is 5 years older than twice Alba's age 5 + 2a or 2a + 5
3 times the difference of y and 10 3(y-10)
17 • 0 = 0 Zero Property of Multiplication. Any number times zero is zero
3 + 2 + 1 = 2 + 3 + 1 Commutative Property of Addition. The numbers change places but the sum stays the same.
a • b = b • a Commutative Property of Multiplication. The factors change places but the product stays the same.
