Gr. 7 Heat Test

QuestionAnswer
What are the 5 main points of the particle theory? 1.All matter is made up of tiny particles 2.Particles are always moving 3.Particles have spaces between them 4.Particles move faster when heated 5.Particles attract to each other
What is HEAT? It is the transfer of energy through the particles of a warm object to the particles of a cooler object.
What is the cue ball explanation? The cue ball has lots of energy and when the cue ball hits the stationary ball the energy from the cue ball is transferred to the stationary ball meaning the stationary ball starts to move while the cue ball slows down.
What is KINETIC ENERGY? It is energy that all moving object posses. A particle has more kinetic energy when moving faster and less kinetic energy when moving slower.
What is TEMPERATURE? It is the measure of the average amount of kinetic energy of the particles of a substance.
What is it called when a solid turns into a liquid? Melting.
What is it called when a liquid turns into a solid? Freezing.
What is it called when a liquid turns into a gas? Evaporation.
What is it called when a gas turns into a liquid? Condensation.
What is it called when a solid turns into a gas? Sublimation.
What is it called when a gas turns into a solid? Deposition.
What is conduction? It is the transfer of thermal energy through a substance or between substances in contact. Conduction is caused by the collision of particles.
What is convection? It is the transfer of energy through one part of a fluid to another by a circulating current of fast-moving and slow-moving particles.
What is radiation? It is the transfer of radiant energy through electromagnetic waves.
What is radiant energy? It is the transfer of energy that travels in the form of electromagnetic waves through empty space.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
