Periodic Table

Vocabulary for Matter and Elemenets

TermDefinition
Matter Any thing that has mass and takes up space
Mass Material that matter is made up of
Volume The amount of space that matter occupies is called its volume
Density the degree of compactness of a substance
Atom the building blocks, smallest part of an element
Electron Particle of an atom that has negative charge located inside the nucleus that has a attractive force that follows to bond with other atoms creating everything in the whole entire universe
Proton Particle of an atom with no change inside the nucleus
Neutron particle of an atom with a neutral and no charge along with the proton
Periodic Table a grid that identifies and classifies all the elements by their chemical and physical properties
Periods\Rows rows that tell how many energy levels each element has for the electrons to move around
Groups\Columns columns that can tell how many valence electron that each has/ the number in thee outer shell hat move around
Valence Electrons The energy level of a atom/ the outer shell
Atomic Number how many protons an element has inside the nucleus/ usally a number of electrons or neutrons
Atomic Mass the measure of mass a element atoms
Chemical Property ability of substances to combine with one other substance
Physical Property a state of matter and app of substance
Ionic Bond when elements lose or gain an electron
Covalent Bond when elements share electrons during bonding
Chemical change elements bond together through attractive force
Compound/Molecule two or more elements bonded together to create a whole new substance
Mixture two or more substance combined together and the substance stays the same
Nobel gases elements in group #18 that are most stable elements
Halogens elements in group #17 they are reactive bonding easily
Alkali Metals elements in group #1 they are very bonding because there are 7 valence
Metelloids a element between metals and no metals that have 3-7 valence electrons
Exothermic Chemical reaction that releases energy
Endothermic Chemical change that absorbs/and or takes in

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
