Geometry unit

Math vocabulary for geometry unit.

TermDefinition
Figure A two-dimensional or three-dimensional shape.
Geometry Mathematics that deals with points, lines, angles, and figures.
Vertex A point where two or more straight lines meet to form an angle.
Plane A flat surface that goes on forever in all directions.
Right angle An angle that measures exactly 90°, square corner.
Three-dimensional shape A solid figure with height, length , and width.
Two dimensional shape A plane figure with height and length.
Solid A figure with three dimensions with height, length, and width.
Sphere A three dimensional figure shaped like a ball.
Square A rectangle with four equal sides and four right angles.
Symmetry When a shape is exactly the same if you flip or turn it over a line.
Cube A three-dimensional shape that has six equal square faces.
Edge The line segment where to faces of a three-dimensional figure meet.
Face The flat surfaces of a three dimensional figure.
Line of symmetry An imaginary line drawn through a shape that divides the shape into halves that match.
Polygon A two-dimensional closed shape with straight sides.
Quadrilateral A two dimensional shape with four sides.
Rectangle A quadrilateral with four sides and four right angles (square corners).
Rectangular prism A rectangular three-dimensional figure.
Side One of the line segments that make a two dimensional shape.
