What are the common symptoms of obesity? Overweight accompanied by sob, dizziness, vertigo, palpitations, fatigue, spontaneous sweating, aversion to heat or cold, overeating, abdominal distension, loose stools, edema, irregular menstruation, pain in the lower legs, etc.
Obesity increases illness and death from what associated diseases? Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, stroke, coronary artery disease and kidney and gall bladder disorders
What are the TCM roots of obesity? Qi xu, primarily Spleen and Kidney with Heart and Lung xu
What are the TCM manifestations of obesity? Turbid phlegm, dampness, water retention, blood stasis and qi stagnation
What are the crucial points in diagnosing obesity? 1.Differentiate between root and manifestations, xu and shi: Qi xu, damp-phlegm, heat-phlegm 2.Identify the site of the disorder (organs) 3.Identify the tongue qualities
What are the general treatment principles for deficient obesity patterns? Tonify deficiency: Tonify the Spleen qi in order to transform and transport dampness and phlegm. Tonify the Kidney qi in order to transform water.
