direct variation a linear relationship between two variables
family of functions a set of functions whose graphs have basic characteristics in common
linear equation any equation that can be written in standard form Ax + By = C
linear function a function whose graph forms a straight line
parallel lines lines in the same plane that do not intersect
parent function the simplest function with the defining characteristics of the family
perpendicular lines lines in the same plane that intersect at 90 degree angle
rate of change a ratio-compares the amount of change in a dependent variable to independent variable
reflection a transformation that reflects or “flips” a graph or figure across a line of reflection
rise the difference in the y-values of two points on a line
rotation a transformation that rotates or turns a figure about a point called the center of reflection
run the difference in the x-values of two points on a line
slope a measure of the steepness of a line-rise over run
transformation a change in the position
translation a transformation that slides every point of a figure or graph the same distance and direction
x-intercept the x-coordinate of the point where a graph intersects the x-axis
y-intercept the y-coordinate of the point where a graph intersects the y-axis

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
