Fitness Unit 1

PE Vocabulary Fitness Unit 1

TermDefinition
Cardiovascular Endurance The capacity of the heart and lungs to deliver oxygen for sustained energy production over long periods of time.
Body Mass Index Measure of body weight to body height and helps to determine your degree of obesity.
Muscular Strength This is the muscle's ability to exert force for a brief span of time.
Flexibility The elasticity of muscles and connective tissues, which determines the range of motion of the joints.
Warm Up This is the process wherein you literally raise your body temperature (some say for about one to two degrees Celsius) to prepare your muscles from the normal to the exercise condition.
Balance the ability to maintain body equilibrium in different movements
Speed the time it takes you to move a certain distance
Weight A body's relative mass or the quantity of matter contained by it, giving rise to a downward force; the heaviness of a person or thing
Agility The ability to change direction of movement quickly while staying in control of your body
Reaction Time the time between recognizing a stimulus and your body moving in response
