Organizational Behavior

TermDefinition
Globalization Means that many markets are worldwide and are served by international or multinational corporations.
Planned Organizational Change Represents a deliberate attempt by leaders and employees to improve the functioning of teams, departments, divisions, or an entire organization in some important way.
Economic Approach Refers to initiating change for the purpose of creating shareholder value.
Organizational Development Approach Refers to developing employees' competencies to solve problems by enabling them to identify and become emotionally committed to improving the performance of the firm.
Virtual Teams Groups of geographically and/or organizationally dispersed coworkers, are assembled via a combination of telecommunications and information technologies to accomplish organizational tasks
Overt Resistance to Change May be expressed through strikes, reduced productivity, shoddy work, and even sabotage.
Covert Resistance to Change May be expressed through increased tardiness and absenteeism, requests for transfers, resignations, loss of motivation, lower morale, higher accident or error rates, or lack of participation
Perceptions Perceptual defense perceiving those things that fit most comfortably with their current view of the world
Personality This source of resistance includes self-esteem and adjustment
Novelty Score (Tolerance of Ambiguity) Indicates extent of tolerance of new things
Complexity Score (Tolerance of Ambiguity) Tolerance of multiple, distinctive, or unrelated info
Insolubility Score (Tolerance of Ambiguity) Tolerance of problems that are hard to solve
Force Field Analysis Suggests that any situation can be considered to be in a state of equilibrium resulting from a balance of forces constantly pushing against each other
Unfreezing (Force Field Analysis) Reduces those forces of maintaining organizations behavior at its present level
Moving (Force Field Analysis) Shifts the organization's behaviors to a new level by developing new behaviors, values, and attitudes through changes in the organization structures and processes.
Refreezing (Force Field Analysis) Stabilizes the organization at a new state of equilibrium. It is accomplished through supporting mechanisms, such as organizational culture, norms, policies, and structures
Organizational Diagnosis The process of assessing the functioning of the organization, department, team, or job to discover the sources of problems and areas for improvement
In Survey Feedback Information is (1) Collected from members of an organization, department, or team; (2) organized into an understandable and useful form; and (3) fed back to the employees who provided it.
Team Building Team members diagnose how they work together and plan changes to improve their effectiveness.
