The specimen used to perform a culture test for the presence of tuberculosis is: Sputum Tuberculosis typically infects the lungs.Sputum is the material coughed up from the lungs. A culture of the material will grow the acid-fast-bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
A blood test used to indicate the level of kidney function is: Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) BUN is a measurement of the amount of nitrogenous substance in the blood as urea. Urea is a major end product of protein and amino acid metabolism. Kidney are responsible for excreting them. If the levels are elevated, it may indicate a kidney failure.
The normal range of urine pH is: 5.0-8.0 On the pH scale, 7.0 represents a neutral reading. Readings lower than 7.0 are acidic and higher than 7.0 are basic. The normal range of urine is from slightly acid to slightly basic.
Which of the following is a normal adult WBC count? 7000 cells/mm3 The normal range for a white blood cell count is 4.5-11.0 x 10cubic cell/cubic millimeter. This means there are 4500 to 11000 white blood cells in a cubic millimeter.
A hematocrit reading of 40 means that: 40% of the total blood volume consists of RBCs. An hematocrit is the percentage of red blood cells contained in whole blood. A reading of 40 means that of 100% total blood volume, 40% is red blood cells and 60% is plasma, WBCs, and platelets.
When whole blood is allowed to clot, the clear portion visible after centrifugation is the: Serum Serum is the clear liquid portion of the blood that contains no blood cells, platelets, or fibrinogen.
When multiple tubes of blood are to be drawn, which one is drawn first? Blood culture or any test requiring a sterile specimen. Special care needs to be done not to contaminate the specimen.
