Percents

TermDefinition
Percent a ratio that compares a number to 100
Percent Proportion percent/100 = part/whole
Percent Equation part = percent (as decimal) x whole
Discount/Sale find discounted amount, then subtract from original price OR subtract discounted percent from 100% and solve to find price paid
Sales Tax find sales tax, then add on to original price OR add sales tax percent to 100% and solve to find TOTAL PRICE, including tax
Tip find tip, then add on to price OR add tip percent to 100% and solve to find TOTAL PRICE, including tip
Commission money earned by sales people, which is calculated as a percentage of the total sales; find the commission by finding the commission percent of the total sales
Mark Up the percentage a seller adds on to the wholesale price of an item in order to sell it and make a profit; add the markup percent to 100% and solve to find the selling price.
To Change a Percent to a Fraction... write over 100 and simplify
To Change a Percent to a Decimal divide by 100
To Change a Fraction to a Decimal divide the numerator (top) by the denominator (bottom)
To Change a Fraction to a Percent divide the numerator (top) by the denominator (bottom), then multiply by 100
To Change a Decimal to a Fraction write the digits over the place value the number is written to, then simplify
To Change a Decimal to a Percent multiply by 100
Percent of Change change (difference)/original(number that comes first) = percent/100
Simple Interest Formula I = prt; I = interest, p = principal, t = time (in years)
