Sewing Review

feed dog moves fabric through the machine while sewing

handwheel release prevents the needle from moving while winding the bobbin
foot control controls the speed of the sewing machine
presser foot holds the fabric down against the feed dog while stitching
backstitch done at the beginning and end of every seam
baste a long temporary stitch done by hand or machine
pivot change the direction of the machine stitching by turning the fabric while the needle is still in the fabric
seam the line on which you stitch the fabric
needle used to sew by machine or hand
pin holds two pieces of fabric together
seam ripper used to take out stitching mistakes
bobbin holds the bottom thread of a machine
seam gauge small ruler used for sewing projects
shears used for sewing to cut fabric
What speed should you sew at? slow
Where should you put your hands when you are sewing at the machine? either side of the presser foot
Should you sew over pins placed in the fabric? no, take them out
Where should your foot rest when you are at the machine but not sewing on the floor, never rest it on the foot control
How should you unplug the machine? pull on the plug, not the cord
Where should pins be when you are not using them? in a container or pin cushion, never in your mouth
How do you hand someone shears give them the handle first
