Land and Water Biome

TermDefinition
Tropical Rainforest Near the equator (warm); large amounts of rainfall; large population of plant growth; most species of all biomes. (example kinkajou- long tongue and tail.)
Deciduous Forest Forest- cooler places; small amounts of rain fall; eastern part of US. Trees lose leaves in colder months (maple, elm) which helps trees save food and water during winter months;
Deciduous Forest (continued) Animals hibernate (such as bears, frogs) and some animals change fur color to camouflage. Over population can occur resulting in a change in the food web.
Grassland Grassland- Midwest America had several tall grasses that covered a large amount of space.Grassland biomes are covered with many types of grasses and have few trees. The dead grasses form fertile soil.
Grassland (continued) Grasslands have a small around of rainfall; this means that trees don't grow very well.The population of animals decreases when there habitat changes.Many animals eat the grass. When grasslands were changed into farms,animals decreased in population.
