Decsibel a unit used to measure the intensity of the sound or the power .
Compression The reduction in volume increase in pressure of the air or combustible in mixture by the cylinder prior in the ignition .
Rarefaction a decrease in density and pressure in a medium such as air .
Doppler effect an apparent change in the frequency of waves , as of sound or light .
Vacuum a space entirely involved of matter .
Frequency the number of cycles or complete alternations per unit time of a wave or oscillation .
Hertz the standard unit of frequency in the international System of units (SI ) equal to one cycle per second .
Ultrasonic of or relating to acoustic frequencies of the range audible to the humans ear , or above approximately 20,000 hertz .
Infrasonic noting or pertaining to a sound wave with a frequency below the audio - frequency range .
Echo a sound or series of sounds caused by the reflection of sound pf sound waves .
Interference the action of interfering of the being interfered with .
Reverberation prolongation of a sound or resource .
Pitch the quality of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations .
