Important vocabulary and concepts for conducting research

QuestionAnswer
What type of information can you find in an encyclopedia? Basic information about a topic that provides an overview of your subject.
What type of organizations have a web address (domain name) that ends with .org? Non-profit organizations (such as k_12 schools and religious organizations)
What type of organizations have a web address (domain name) that ends with .com? Company or commercial organizations (purpose is to make money)
What is a keyword? An important word or words used in a search.
What is the purpose of a citation? Used in a bibliography to give credit to an author whose ideas you are using.
What is plagiarism? Copying or using someone else's work without giving them credit.
What symbol is used for copyright? ©
When would you use a keyword? A keyword is best used when searching an online database or when using a search engine such as Google, Yahoo, or Gogooligans.
Name two web browsers used at school. Safari, Firefox, Chrome
What is the copyright date of a book? The date a book was published.
What can you avoid by including citations in a bibliography? Plagiarism
