Question | Answer |
---|---|
What is meant when we say that a substance dissolves? | When a substance dissolves the solvent has broken down the substance and it is no longer a single piece. |
Give the definition for solution. | A solution is a mixture of a solute and a solvent. |
Give the definition for a solute and solvent. | A solute is something which gets dissolved. A solvent is something that does the dissolving. |
What is meant by soluble and insoluble? | Soluble means it can be dissolved. Insoluble mean it cannot be dissolved. |
What is a suspension? | A suspension is when the solids are not dissolved but just floating in the solvent. |
What is meant by the terms concentrated and dilute? | Concentrate is when there is an large amount of the Solute in the solution and dilute is when there is a very small amount of solute in the solution. |
What is a saturated solution? | A saturated solution is one where the solvent cannot dissolve many more solid solute. |
Define crystallisation. | Crystalisation is the forming of a crystalline solid from an over saturated solution. |
