Science inside earth

20-30 questions and answers

QuestionAnswer
Name the layers of the earth. Crust - Mantle - InnerCore - OuterCore
What are the continental and oceanic crust made of? Continental = Granite Oceanic = Basalt
J Tuzo Wilson used two other theories to form the theory of plate tectonics what two did he use? 1. Pangea 2. Sea floor spreading
When one plate goes underneath another plate or oceanic under continental what is it called? It is called {Subduction}.
When new crust is made on the ocean floor due to the divergent boundary this is called what? It is called {Sea Floor Spreading}.
What is this? A boundary that moves past another in opposite direction that accasionally causes earth quakes. What is a {Transform boundary}.
What is this? Where to continental plates slide together to form mountains or a oceanic crust slides under continental and gets subducted. What is a {Convergent Boundary}.
What is this? A place were to of the earth plates pull apart and make a thing called rift valley. What is a {Divergent Boundary}.
Continental Drift Theory by Alfred Wegner
Pangea Means All Lands
glossopteris Fern like fossil
Lithosphere and Asthnosphere L - Layer of rigid hard rock A - Layer of soft rock
Deep Sea Trench Deep valley in the ocean where the crust sinks down into the mantle.
Mid-Ocean Ridge Under-sea mountain made by a divergent boundary.
Mantle inner Is home to the lithosphere and asthenosphere.
Rift valley Deep valley that forms when to plates move apart from each other on land.
Inner core Is hard rock and is what causes the magnetic reaction in north and south pole.
outer core Is liqued and on top of the inner core
mantle Is the largest layer in the earth
Crust Is the top and very small.
