polygon | a closed figure made up of line segments that do not cross each other |
regular polygon | a polygon with congruent sides and congruent angles |
congruent sides | sides that are equal in length |
congruent angles | angles that have the same degree measure |
triangle | a polygon with three sides and three angles |
quadrilateral | a polygon with four sides and four angles |
pentagon | a polygon with five sides and five angles |
hexagon | a polygon with six sides and six angles |
octagon | a polygon with eight sides and eight angles |
attribute | a characteristic of a figure like side measures and angle measures |
isosceles triangle | a triangle with at least two congruent sides |
equilateral triangle | a triangle with all sides congruent |
scalene triangle | a triangle with no congruent sides |
acute triangle | a triangle with three acute angles |
right triangle | a triangle with one right angle and two acute angles |
obtuse triangle | a triangle with one obtuse angle and two acute angles |
trapezoid | a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of opposite sides that are parallel |
rectangle | a parallelogram with four right angles |
parallelogram | a quadrilateral with opposite sides congruent and parallel |
square | a parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles |
rhombus | a parallelogram with four congruent sides |
three-dimensional figure | a figure with length, width, and height |
net | a two-dimensional pattern of a three-dimensional figure |
cube | a three-dimensional figure with six faces that are congruent squares, has twelve edges and eight vertices, also called a square prism |
congruent figures | figures that have the same size and shape |
rectangular prism | a three-dimensional figure with six rectangular faces and opposite faces that are parallel and congruent |
face | a flat surface |
edge | where two faces meet |
vertex | a point where three or more faces meet |
prism | a three-dimensional figure that has at least three faces that are rectangles |
bases | the top and bottom faces |
rectangular prism | a prism with bases that are congruent rectangles, has six rectangular faces, twelve edges, and eight vertices |
triangular prism | a prism with triangular bases, has five faces, nine edges, and six vertices |
volume | the amount of space inside a three-dimensional figure |
composite figure | made up of two or more three-dimensional figures |
