gridlock Political stalemate between the executive and legeslative branches
veto The rejection of a legislative act by the executive branch
pocket veto Effective veto of a bill when congress adjourns within 10 days of it passing and the president fails to sign it
override Voting in congress to enact legislation vetoed by the president: requires a two thirds vote in both house and senate
line-item veto Power of the chief executive to reject some portions of a bill without rejecting all of it.
