Advertisers try to convince you that if you don't use their product, you are a nerd. are you cool enough
Join the crowd! Don't be left out! bandwagon
Cartoons make kids identify with products cartoon characters
Who would ever imagine that food could be this fun? excitement
Advertisers use fact and statistics to enhance a product's credibility. Opinions are used to confuse the consumer into thinking they are facts. facts and figures
a product is shown as something that brings the family together family fun
Advertisers use glowing words or phrases to draw your attention glittering generality
Ads that draw a consumer into a story and make them feel good. heart strings
always seem perfect. Attractive and pleasant looking - everyone seems to get along! Represent the types of families that we all want to be like. ideal kids/families
Advertisers put down their competitors product to make their own name calling/put downs
Advertisers don't give you the full story about their product omission
Advertisers hope that if you see a product or hear it's name over and over again, you will be more likely to buy it. repetition
Advertisers make a product look bigger or smaller than it actually is scale
Music and other sound effects add to the excitement of commercials. sounds good
Sports stars and celebrities are telling you that their product is the best! star power
