irregular verb | -verbs that do not follow the rules when changing to past tense |
non-restrictive phrase | -the part of a sentence that can be removed without losing the completeness of the thought |
appositive phrase | -is a noun or noun phrase that renames another noun right beside it |
independent clause | -is a complete thought that contains a subject and verb, and expresses an entire idea |
dependent clause | -cannot stand alone as a complete thought |
capitalization | -at the beginning of a sentence or proper nouns, like specific people, place, and things |
end punctuation | -period, exclamation point, question mark |
homophone | -two or more words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings |
comparative adjective | -comparing two or more things in a sentence (er or more) |
superlative adjective | -comparing more than two things in a sentence (est or most) |
reflexive pronoun | -a word that refers back to the subject of the sentence |
pronoun | -a word that replaces the noun in a sentence |
article | -are specific adjectives that come before a noun. |
