| Instinct | A natural pattern of behavior in a species such as birds building nests or tarantulas throwing hair to escape predators |
| Inherited Trait | A characteristic that is passed from parents to offspring during reproduction. |
| Trait | A specific characteristic of an organism |
| Offspring | New organisms that come from parents that have reproduced |
| Heredity | The passing of traits from parent to offspring during reproduction |
| Migration | to move usually periodically from one region or climate to another for feeding or breeding |
| Mimicry | The resemblance of an organism to another organism or to its surroundings that gives it a better chance of survival |
| Camouflage | To increase their chances of survival, some organisms blend in with their surrounding environment |
| Hibernation | A long period of inactivity that is like sleeping |
