frontalis | raises eyebrow/ move scalp forward & backward |
zygomaticus | minor:retracts and elevates upper lip, major: retracts and elevates corners of mouth...SMILE MUSCLE |
occipitalis (epicranious- occipitofrontalis) | tenses and retracts scalp raises the eyebrow ( as if in surprise |
sternocleidomastoid | together: flex neck, alone: bends head toward shoulder turns face to opp. side O-MANIBRIUM AND CLAVICLE (MEDIAL PORTION) I- SUPERIOR NACHAL LINE OF OCCIPITAL BONE |
rectus abdominis | depresses ribs, flexes vertebral column |
transverse abdominis | compresses abdominal contents |
Temporalis | Elevates mandible, AND SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT I-CORONOID PROCESS OF MANDIBLE VIA LIGAMENT 0-TEMPRORAL FOSSA |
serratus anterior | protracts shoulder, rotates scapula so glenoid cavity moves superiorly |
pectoralis major | flexion, adduction, medial rotation at shoulder |
latissimus dorsi | extension, adduction and medial rotation at shoulder |
deltoid | whole: abduction at shoulder, anterior: flexion and medial rotation, posterior: extension and lateral rotation |
mentalis | elevates and protrudes lower lip |
triceps brachii | extension at elbow, long head: extension and adduction at shoulder |
biceps brachii | flexion at elbow and shoulder, supination at elbow |
brachialis | flexion at elbow |
supinator | supination |
diaphragm | contraction expands thoracic cavity compreses abdominopelvic cavity |
internal intercostals | elevate ribs |
external intercostals | depresses ribs |
Buccinator | compresses cheeks/ use when whistling, sucking, blow bubbles. Holds food between teeth when chewing |
platysma | draws mouth downward/pull skin over clevicle up |
splenius capitis | together: extend neck, each rotates and laterally flexes neck to that side |
semispinalis capitis | together: extend head each extends and laterally flexes neck |
iliocostalic cervicis | extends or laterally flexes neck, elevates ribs |
iliocostalis thoracis | stabilizes thoracec vertebrae in extension |
iliocostalis lumborum | extends vertebral column and depresses ribs |
longissimus capitus | together: extends neck, each rotates and laterally flexes neck to that side |
longissimus cervicis | together: extends neck, each rotates and laterally flexes neck to that side |
masseter TEMPORALIS *PRIME MOVERS OF THE MANDIBLE | closes jaw, chewing,ELEVATION MAINTAINS POSITION OF JAW @REST, ELEVATES |
longissimus thoracis | extends vertebral column, each produces lateral flextion to that side |
spinalis cervicis | extends neck |
sternocleidomastoid | together: flex neck, alone: bends head toward shoulder turns face to opp side |
pectoralis minor | depresses and protracts shoulder, rotates scapula so glenoid cavity moves inferiorly. |
brachioradialis | flexion at elbow |
internal oblique | tenses abdominal wall and compresses abdominal contents |
trapezius | extends head, raises, rotates and retracts scapula and stabilizes it. |
external oblique | compresses abs, depresses ribs, flexes/bends spine |
rhomboids | Adducts scapula and downward rotation |
teres minor | lateral rotation @ shoulder |
teres major | extension, adduction and medial rotation at shoulder |
infraspinatus | lateral rotation at shoulder |
supraspinatus | abduction at shoulder |
subscapularis | medial rotation at shoulder |
pronator teres | pronation |
supinator | supination |
risorius | draws corners of mouth to side/make fish face |
depressor anguli oris | depresses lower lip |
Zygomaticus Major | draws mouth upward / smile muscle |
Depressor labii inferioris | allow lips to pull downward / frown muscle |
Medial Pterygoid | assist mandible in chewing |
Longus Colli | bend neck forward |
Longu Capitis | flexs-rotate the head |
Scalenus Anterior SUPERIOR AND POSTERIOR | ELEVATES FIRST 2 RIBS (AIDS RESPIRATION) FLEXES AND ROTATES NECK |
Scalenus Medias | rasies the 1st rib |
Scalenus Posterior | bend cervical vertebrae, raises 2nd rib |
Nasalis | helps open and close nasal |
Corrugator Supercilii | move eyebrow up and down |
SPLENIS ( BAND-AID ) | BEARS MOST OF RESPONSIBILITY IN EXTENSION AND HYPER-EXTENSION OF THE NECK, UNILATERALLY ROTATES, LATERALLY FLEXION SAME SIDE |
