Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Activities

TermDefinition
Primary Activity An economic activity that produces raw materials: farming/fishing/forestry
Secondary Activity Raw materials being used to produce goods, for people to buy.
Tertiary Activity People providing a service that is of benefit to other people.
Sustainable Exploitation People use a resource for their without putting the needs of a future generation at risk.
Water Conservation This is when water is conserved so it will not run-out.
Irrigation This is when water from canals and pipes is used to water plants.
Oil Reserve The known supply of oil underground
North Sea Where oil was successfully found
Inward Migration Demand for waters brought many inward migrants to Saudi Arabia.
Irish Coastal Waters The presence of oil and gas in the north sea promoted oil companies to look to Irish waters for oil .
Renewable energy Energy that can be used for something again and again.
Meitheal A group of neighbours and friends who worked together at a common task in rural Ireland.
