Water Cycle

TermDefinition
Polarity When electrons are not shared equally in a covalent bond.
Cohesion The fact that water sticks to itself easily.
Adhesion The fact that water also sticks to other things.
SoIvent An item with the ability to dissolve.
Permeable The ability for liquids to pass through other things.
Ice Caps/Glaciers 2% of freshwater that is frozen.
Aquifer An underground layer of water used for wells.
Watershed/River Basin A ridge that separates waters flowing to different rivers.
Impermeable An item that does not allow liquids to pass though.
Groundwater The water located beneath the earths surface.
Tributary A river or stream flowing into a larger body of water.
Law of Conservation of Mass Mass cannot be created nor destroyed, just change forms.
Reactant The materials of the reaction cause it to happen.
Product The materials formed from the reaction.
Flammability Able to burn, or catch fire.
Precipitate Material formed as a result of chemical change.
Phase Change Changing from one state of matter to another
ChemicaI Change Reaction that forms a new substance. Evidence include: formation of precipitate, change of temperature, change of color, and formation of gas (bubbles).
PhysicaI Property Characteristic that can be observed with your senses or measured.
Period A row on the periodic table.
Family A column on the periodic table.
Atomic Mass The average number of protons and neutrons in an atom.
EIement A pure substance that has 2 or more of the same atoms.
Compound Two or more elements chemically bonded.
Conductivity Able to transmit electricity, heat.
Unconformity When a rock disturbs a series of undisturbed layers.
Law of Superposition In an undisturbed set layer of rock, the younger rock is on top and the oldest rock is on the bottom.
