Earth Layers + Rocks

What I learned in Science of the Earths layers and Rocks.

TermDefinition
Continental Crust The top layer of the earth, goes with land.
Oceanic Crust The top layer of the earth, goes with the ocean.
Mantle The second layer of the earth
Outer core The third layer of the earth
Inner core The innermost layer of the earth; the fourth layer
Sedimentary Rock The type rock made of Sediments compacted together
Metamorphic Rock The type of rock formed by heat and pressure
Igneous Rock The type of rock formed by melting into magma and cooling into a rock.
Erosion When broken off pieces of sediment are carried to a different place.
Weathering when rocks are broken into little pieces called sediment
Sediment Small pieces of rock
Magma Melting rock, within the earth
Lava melted rock, outside the earth
Cementation and Compaction When Sediment is pressed into a rock.
Heat and pressure when A rock is formed my pressing lots sediment; dead plants and animals into a rock form.
Melting and Cooling When a rock is melted into Magma, and cools into a Igneous rock.
