The U.S. Constitution provides a framework for government. What does that mean? The constitution describes what the government may and may not do.
Why did we write the U.S. Constitution? The Articles of Confederation were weak and not working. We needed a strong central government.
Who is the source of the government's authority? The people
What did the U.S. Constitution create and provide? it provided a government with limited powers and protections for the rights of citizens.
How do U.S. citizens choose representatives and decide issues? through the process of voting
Freedom of religion People have the right to worship as they choose, or not at all
Freedom of speech People have the right to say what they think. People can criticize the government.
Freedom of press People have the right to write what they think.
Freedom to petition People have the right to ask to change the government by obtaining signatures.
Freedom to assemble peacefully People have the right to peacefully gather together to share thoughts and ideas.
What is a constitution? It is a written document describing the way a government is organized and how its power is allocated.
What do both Ohio and the United States have? They both have democratic constitutions that provide frameworks limiting the powers of the government and defining the authority of elected officials.
