QuestionAnswer
conventions Customary practices, features, characteristics, or patterns of a text, often arising from the medium or form.
essay structure Usually has 3 main parts: an introduction that introduces the basic background info to indicate the story's main conflict; a body that presents events in a clear order; a conclusion that provides a resolution and summarizes main points.
flashback A technique for presenting something that happened earlier (often prior to when the reader begins the story) that helps explain something about the current situation.
mood The overall feeling (e.g., light and happy or dark and brooding) created by an author's choice of words.
prefix A syllable or word added to the beginning of a root word to change the meaning.
prior knowledge Your background knowledge and experiences about a topic, what you already know about a topic.
prompt A question or an instructions that tells you what you're supposed to write.
text Any piece of spoken, written, or visual communication that may combine oral, written, or visual components.
tragic flaw The character flaw or defect that causes the downfall of the protagonist (hero) in a tragedy; also known as hamartia.
verbal and nonverbal language features Includes summaries, eye contact, body language, repetition, volume, etc.
