planet

TermDefinition
asteroids a small rocky body orbiting the sun.
comets a celestial object consisting of a nucleus of ice and dust and, when near the sun, a “tail” of gas and dust particles pointing away from the sun.
dwarf planet a celestial body resembling a small planet but lacking certain technical criteria that are required for it to be classed as such.
gravity the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth,
moon phases The lunar phase or phase of the moon is the shape of the illuminated
seasons each of the four divisions of the year (spring, summer, autumn, and winter)
solar system the collection of eight planets and their moons in orbit around the sun, together with smaller bodies in the form of asteroids, meteoroids, and comets
tides the alternate rising and falling of the sea, usually twice in each lunar day at a particular place, due to the attraction of the moon and sun.
axis an imaginary line about which a body rotates.
constellations a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form or identified with a mythological figure. Modern astronomers divide the sky into eighty-eight constellations with defined boundaries.
gravitational pull The gravitational pull of the Earth is the attraction that the Earth exerts on an object or that an object exerts on the Earth.
LUNAR ECLIPSE an eclipse in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth's shadow.
planet a celestial body moving in an elliptical orbit around a star.
rotation the action of rotating around an axis or center.
solar eclipse an eclipse in which the sun is obscured by the moon.
stars a fixed luminous point in the night sky that is a large, remote incandescent body like the sun.
tilt move or cause to move into a sloping position.
