Term | Definition |
---|---|
Compare and contrast weather and climate | Weather is a shirt time and can change in minutes. Climate is long term and changes slowly over time. |
What are the features of a locations weather? | Air temperature , air pressure, fog, humidity, and cloud cover |
How are clouds formed? | The form water vapor condenses around particles in the air. Particles are specks of matter, such as dust or smoke. Billions of these tiny droplets come together to form this. |
Fog is a cloud that is low to the ground. | True |
Define and describe mP air mass. | Maritime Polar |
Define and describe mT air mass. | Maritime Tropical - warm and moist |
Define and describe mA air mass. | Maritime Atlantic - |
Define and describe cT air mass. | Continental Tropical - hot and dry |
Define and describe cA air mass. | Continental Arctic - very cold and dry |
Define and describe cP air mass. | Continental Polar - cold and dry |
What are 5 main air masses in North America | mP, mT, cT, cA, cP |
How does a cold front occur? And what weather does it bring? | This occurs when cold air masses move south from the poles, they run into warm air masses moving north from the tropics. They bring sudden changes in weather. Spring and Summer = thunderstorms and tornadoes. Winter and Fall = snow |
How does a warm front occur? And what weather does it bring? | This happens when warm air masses run into cold air masses. This brings clouds and sometime a small amount of rain. It is more likely to be humid. |
How does a occluded front occur? And what weather does it bring? | This happens when warm air masses become trapped between two cold air masses. Cloudy weather and rain are typical. |
How does a stationary front occur? And what weather does it bring? | This happens when two air masses stop moving when they meet. This weather will bring clouds and rain for many days. |
