What is adhesion? Opposite molecules that attach to each other.
What is cohesion? Similar molecules that attach to each other.
How can salinity percentages be expressed? How much salt would be in 1,000 grams of water.
When depth in a tropical region increases what happens to salinity? Salinity would decrease as depth increases.
In temperate regions, as depth increases what happens to density? Density would increase as depth increases.
In polar regions, as depth increases what happens to temperature? Temperature would stay about the same as depth increases.
How do icebergs float? Water is denser as a liquid than solid so icebergs float on top since it is less dense.
How do frogs and fish survive under ice? Ice is less dense than water underneath it so it floats and it then insolates the water underneath it.
What is polarity? When opposite ends of molecules have slightly opposite charges but the charge is neutral overall.
Water can exist in what three forms? It can exist as a solid, liquid, and gas.
Water is densest at what temperature? Its is densest at 4C.
Water is least dense at what? It's least densest at 0C.
What are currents? Currents are cohesive streams of seawater.
What currents sank the Titanic? The Labrador Current off Greenland sank the Titanic.
How many gyres are in the world? There are five spread across the Indian ocean, Atlantic, and in the Pacific ocean.
