what is salinity? a measure of the mass of dissolved solids in a mass of water.
how did the water on earth become salty? rain falls onto earths surface and over rocks and minerals, the minerals contained substances that formed salts.
two sources of water for earths oceans? 1. water vapor expelled from volcanoes that condensed and precipitated. 2. melted ice from comets and asteroids.
what is brackish water? brackish water is fresh water mixed with seawater.
what is the surface zone? area of shallow water that receives the greatest amount of sunlight.
two oceans that are partly covered with sea ice are? the arctic ocean, and the southern ocean
the largest and the deepest ocean is? the pacific ocean
what is seawater? water from the sea or ocean that has an average salinity of 35 ppt.
