Term | Definition |

Compaction | A hard solid mass formed by the local accumulation of matter, especially within the body or within a mass of sediment. |
Cementation | The binding together of particles or other things by cement. |
Chemical sedimentary rock | A form by precipitation of minerals from water. |
Organic sedimentary rock | A form from the accumulation and lithification of organic debris, such as leaves, roots, and other plant or animal material. |
Clastic sedimentary rock | Rocks composed predominantly of broken pieces or clasts of older weathered and eroded rocks. |
Sorting | Arranged systematically in groups; separate according to type, class, etc |
Angularity | The quality of being angular. |
Stratification | The relative social position of persons in a given social group, category, geographical region or other social unit. |
Cross-bedding | Layering within a stratum and at an angle to the main bedding plane. |
Ripple marks | A system of subparallel wavy ridges and furrows left on sand or mud by the action of water or wind, and sometimes fossilized. |
Mud cracks | A fracture, part of a desiccation pattern, caused by the drying out and shrinking of silt or clay. |
Concretions | The act or process of concreting or becoming substantial; coalescence; solidification. |
