simplify find a number that the numerator and denominator can go into ex. 4/8 = 1/2 remember not all problems can be simplified
multiply a fraction by a fraction multiply across ex. 1\2 x 1\4 =1x1=numerator 2x4=denominator
multiply a whole number by a fraction change the whole to a fraction and multiply across ex. 1=1\1 1\1 x 1\2 = 1\2
multiply a whole number by a mixed number change the whole to a fraction and for the mixed number multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to that ex. 1=1\1 1 3\4 = 7\4 and 1/1 x 7\4 =7/4=1 3/4
how to make a mixed number improper just in case if you didnt get the last one what you do is multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to that make sure to keep the denominator the same
whats a reciprocal when you divide 1 by a number
how to divide a fraction by a fraction just like multiplying all you do is switch the division sign to a multiplication sign and flip the second fraction so the denominator becomes the numerator and vice versa ex. 1\4 divided by 1/2 = 1/4 x 2\1
how to divide a fraction by a mixed number first change the division sign to a multiplication sign then simplify the second fraction and flip it ex. 1\2 divided by 1 1\2 = 1\2 x 3\2
