TermDefinition
Thermal Energy A system of that is the sum of all kinetic energies of its particles.
Average Kinetic Energy The temperature of an object is directly related to this
Thermal expansion Particles gain energy and can move away from each other
Electrical Resistance A way to measure how well electricity is conducted.
Viscosity The thickness of an object
Heat The quantity of thermal energy that flows from one place to another
Conduction When two objects of different temperatures touch, thermal energy moves from the hotter object to the cooler one
Convection Thermal energy carried from one location to another by a fluid
Radiation Thermal energy carried within a gas
Insulators Materials that resist the flow of thermal energy
Heat Capacity The relationship between the amount of thermal energy absorbed and the temperature change caused by this
Specific Heat The heat capacity per gram of material
Latent heat of Fusion The amount of thermal energy exchanged per gram of material
