Ventral front part of body
Dorsal back part of body
Anterior in front
Posterior back side of body
Medial toward the midline of body
Lateral toward the side of body
Proximal closest to the point of origin
Distal away from the point of origin
Frontal plane divides body into front and back portions
Transverse plane divides body into upper and lower portions
Anatomical position standing with arms by side feet and palms forward
Supine position lying on back
Prone position lying on stomach
Lateral recumbent position lying on side
Fowlers position lying on back at 45 degree angle
Sims position pt lying on stomach/side with same arm and leg up (used for enemas and treatments)
Trendelenburg position pt in supine position with incline at 45 degrees (head down and feet up)
Dorsal Recumbent Position pt on back with knee flexed and soles of feet on bed (used for pap smears)
