secondary waves | Starts at the subsurface and is slower . |
Surfaces waves | Starts on the surface and is the slowest. |
Volcano | An area of the Earth's surface which magma and volcanic gasses pass |
Magma | Molten rock under the crust. |
Lava | Hot molted rock erupted by a volcano. |
Magma chamber | The body of molten rock that feeds a volcano. |
Vents | Cracks in the Earth's crust to openings |
Pyroclastic flow | produced when enormous amounts of hot ash, dust and gases ejected from a volcano. |
Viscosity (Viscous) | Having a sticky consistency between a solid and a liquid |
Caldera | A large, semi circular depression that forms when the magma chamber empties out and sinks. |
crater | funnel-sloped pit near the top of a central vent. |
Rock Cycle | the series of rock changes from one form to another |
Erosion | The process by which wind, water, ice, or gravity transforms soli and sediments from one location to another |
Deposition | The process in which material is laid down |
igneous rock | Rocks formed by cooling of lava and magma. |
sedimentary rock | Rocks formed through deposition and sediments in layers |
metamorphic rock | Rocks that were once formed from rocks but has changed by heat and pressure |
Intrusive | Rock formed from the cooling and solidification of magma beneath the Earth's surface. |
Extrusive | Rock that forms as a result of volcanic activity at or near the Earth's surface. |
Strata | Layers of rock (singular stratum) |
Stratification | The process in which sedimentary rocks are arranged in layers. |
Index Minerals | used to estimate the temperature depth, and pressure that which a rock undergoes metamorphism. |
foliated | Mineral grains arranged in planes or bands. |
nonfoliated | Mineral grains that are not arranged in planes or bands. |
