TermDefinition
Emerging Technology A new technology that is being developed, or will be developed within the next 5-10 years.
World Wide Web An information system on the internet that allows documents to be connected to other documents, enabling the user to search for information by moving from one document to another.
Internet A global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard internet protocol suite, to link several billion devices online.
Ethernet A system for connecting a number of computer systems to form a local area network, with protocols to control the passing of information and to avoid simultaneous transmission by two or more systems.
Wireless broadcasting, computer networking, or other communication using radio signals, microwaves, etc.
Portal An Internet site providing access or links to other sites.
Wireless Fidelity A local area network that uses high frequency radio signals to transmit and receive data over distances of a few hundred feet.
Social Media websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.
Industrial Internet The industrial internet is a term coined by General Electric and refers to the integration of complex physical machinery with networked sensors and software.
