Qualitative | made by gathering information that can be recorded using descriptive language |
Quantitative | made by gathering information that can be recorded as a number with a measurement unit |
Inference | not a fact, but an interpretation of what the direct observation means |
Scientific Law | describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions |
Constant | part of an experiment that is held in the same condition for control and experiment |
Variable | part of the experiment that changes |
Manipulative Variable | a factor in a controlled experiment that is intentionally changes by the experimenter |
Scientific Theory | a well tested explanation for a wide range of observations or experimental results |

Responding Variable | a resulting factor in a controlled experiment that is observed and measured to see if it changes due to the manipulation of another variable |
Experiment | a course of action completed in order to test a hypothesis |
Control | a standard to which all other levels are completed in a scientific experiment |
Matter | anything that has mass and takes up space |
Physical Change | any change that alters form or appearance of matter but does not make any substance in the matter into a different substance |
Chemical Change | a change in matter that produces one or more new substances |
Weight | the amount of gravity on an object |
Mass | amount of matter in an object |
