QuestionAnswer
Which nonrenewable resources causes the most air pollution? Coal
Where or how is coal, oil, and natural gas used today? Coal, oil, and natural gas help fuel electricity, heat homes, and transportation.
Where do fossil fuels come from? Fossil fuels come from dead animals that have lived millions of years ago.
What is the difference between crude oil and oil? Crude oil is not refined and oil is.
Which nonrenewable resouce causes the least air pollution? Natural gas
List the nonrenewable resouces. Petroleum, coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy
Why are people trying to use alternative energy resources? People use alternative energy resources because these don't cause air pollution.
Which do people use more of today, renewable or nonrenewable resources? Why? Nonrenewable
Which refundable resource indirectly affects wind and hydropower?Explain? solar energy indirectly affects wind and hydro-power, because without the suns power we wouldn't have our wind currents, and we wouldn't have flowing water, which is known as hydroelectric.
Explain how fusion and fission make energy. Fission creates energy by releasing large amounts of energy, and it creates electrical energy. Fusion creates energy by when two more more nuclei form a larger nucleus, and releases large amounts of energy which happens naturally from the sun.
What is the major advantage of fossil fuels? Fossil fuels are easily available and produce a lot of energy, and they don't cost alot of money.
Drilling wells on the ocean floor removes which fossil fuels? oil and natural gas
What is coal made from? Coal is made from decomposed plant material
What are natural gas and petroleum formed from? Petroleum is a liquid fossil fuel that is made of hydrocarbon compounds. Natural gas is a gaseous fossil fuel that is made of hydrocarbon compounds.
Which fossil fuel is used the most in the U.S.? Which is the most abundant in the US? coal
What is the major disadvantage of natural gas? Natural gas cause too much air pollution
How does hydro electricity create electricity for people? Hydroelectricity creates energy for people by falling water and the flowing water creates energy for our every day use.
What does energy conservation mean? Energy conservation means how much energy you save in a day.
Which renewable resource is the most widely used today? hydroelectricity
What will most future cars run on top save more energy? electricity and gas
Where does geothermal energy come from? Geothermal energy is thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth.
List the alternative resources. wind, biomass, geothermal, hydroelectricity, solar, and nuclear power
Why is plastic not a natural resource? plastic is not a natural resource because,it was not from naturally formed from nature.
Compare the rate of use and formation between renewable and nonrenewable resources. the difference between renewable and non renewable resources is that nonrenewable resources are not renewable and could run out and can not come back until millions of years later. Also, renewable resources would not run out in our life time.
Why is their so much smog in downtown Atlanta than in rural areas? their is so much smog in downtown Atlanta because, their are more people living in an area than just a fewer amount of people living in a rural area.
Where does fission and fusion occur?
What is the disadvantage of fission?
How is the suns energy harnessed? the suns' energy is harnessed by machines.
What is acid rain and how can people prevent it? Acid rain is when water is polluted and that polluted water becomes acid rain and is harming the enviorment
In Iceland, heat from the Earths surface is used to make energy. What is this called? Geothermal energy
List 3 examples of organic matter used to make biomass. lumber, manure, forest debris
List some examples of recyclable material. -plastic cans -paper -plastic bags
What is the disadvantage of solar energy? the amount of $$ it cost.
What is a major disadvantage of wind energy? some areas don't have enough strong wind and the wind could be unpredictable at times.
What is a problem of building dams for hydroelectric energy? Dams are a problem for hydroelectricity because, this would stop the rushing flow of the water and this wouldn't create energy.
