Mineral A hard substance that forms naturally under the ground
Igneous Rocks that are formed by the cooling of molten magma or lava
Crystals Minerals that are mostly clear (transparent in colour and have a particular shape
Sedimentary Rocks that are formed when sediments and the remains of plant and animal life are deposited and compacted
Fossil Remains of sea creatures (shells and skeletons) that are preserved in the rock
Deposition The process where sediments are laid down (dropped) by water (rivers or sea)
Metamorphic Rocks that are formed when existing rocks are changed by heat and pressure
Permeable when water is able to seep or pass through rocks
Strata The layers in which the deposits that form some sedimentary rocks are laid down
Natural Resource Something that occurs in nature and is of use to people
Marble Metamorphic rock formed from limestone
Quartzite Metamorphic rock formed from sandstone
Basalt Rock formed when lava cooled quickly on the surface
Granite Rock formed when lava cooled slowly beneath the surface
Slate Rock that is used on roofs and snooker tables
