Properties of Matter

odor the property of matter detected by the nose
taste whether or not something is sweet, sour, or bitter
color detected by the eyes when certain wavelengths of light reflect off of objects
hardness how easily a substance can be scratched
luster whether something is shiny or dull
texture can be felt when touching the surface of an object
solubility when one substance can dissolve in another
viscosity how easily a substance can pour or flow from its container
clarity how much light can pass through a substance
magnetism an object is attracted to a magnetic field
density how much mass of a substance there is in a volume of space
crystal form the geometrical shapes some solids form
electrical conductivity a substance can conduct an electrical current
ductility a substance can be stretched into a thin wire
malleability a substance can be hammered into a thin sheet
boiling point the temperature at which a liquid turns into a gas
melting point the temperature at which a solid turns into a liquid
reactivity with water a substance reacts to water
combustibility a substance catches fire in the presence of oxygen and heat
state of matter a substance is in its solid, liquid, or gas form
oxidation/corrosion rusting of metal
acidicity/basicity pH level of a substance
shape the form an item takes
toxicity degree that a substance can harm living things
flammability how easily a substance catches fire
radioactivity when a substance releases dangerous radiation
